NARS Sheer Glow Foundation Review. My Personal Favourite!

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation Review. My Personal Favourite!

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation ReviewFirst of all, I am a no-foundation  kind of girl. I hate feeling like there is much of anything on my skin, other than a moisturizer. I can take a heavy foundation for a couple hours for an event, but to wear it every day? NO! I believe that most people can wear a light or medium foundation and look very good; personally I don’t think it’s necessary to have that airbrushed look every day. I understand for those acne or dark-spot prone ladies that you feel more confident when your skin is completely evened, but otherwise I really don’t see the point in wearing something heavy. That is the reason why I decided to try this foundation, considering “sheer” is in the name. I’ve had a great experience with this foundation, so I felt that I should share the love and write a NARS Sheer Glow Foundation Review.

Coverage & Finish:

Although NARS uses the word “sheer” to describe their foundation, I find that it can actually build up to a nice amount of coverage. One layer would be light, but if you did a second brush-over, you’d definitely achieve medium coverage. Even with a second layer, this foundation is weightless, I NEVER feel like I’m wearing something. I try it on loads of people and they’re always pleased with the texture and how it turns out for an everyday look.  It’s extremely natural looking and has a good range of shades which are more on the yellow side, but I believe it’s still manageable to find a shade for a wide range of women. It has a natural finish, with a progressive glow as the day goes on. I believe someone with a combination or oily skin type would find it quite glowy, and a dryer skin type would find it natural.

Lasting Power & Cost:

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation Review

I use the MAC 187 to apply foundation, it's my favourite!

One thing I’m not too crazy about is the lasting power.  I find that it will begin to fade after about 4-5 hours, and if I can’t reapply, the pink tone of my skin will start shining through, much to my dislike. It isn’t a big issue for me because I use a primer anyways, and in which case it will last for many hours, and just gets glowier – which I like. But for the girl who won’t use a primer, it may end up being a major downfall. Another thing which is a little unfortunate is the price, one bottle is $55 CAN. I don’t mind spending the money as long as I have it, and this foundation does last me quite a long time, even with daily use, but I would agree that it’s a little pricey.

One last thing I wish they would have included is a pump! I don’t like having to pour the foundation out, potentially losing some or making a mess. Aside from that, I still absolutely LOVE this foundation. I’ve repurchased already and will continue to. I love the texture, coverage as well as the overall look and feel! It’s my personal favourite foundation. Thank you so much for reading my NARS Sheer Glow Review, please let me know if you have any questions!

Tarte Eyebrow Pencil Review. 100% Amazing!

Tarte Eyebrow Pencil Review. 100% Amazing!

I still remember the moment I discovered there was such a thing as eyebrow pencils. The JOY I felt! My brows were severely over-plucked years ago by my sister, and sadly for me, they never grew back. Although I have forgiven her (haha) I still face the issue of tiny little eyebrows. Powders never satisfied me and I gave up on some pencils because they seemed to fade off too quickly. I love the brand Tarte, and when I found out they had a brow pencil, I jumped right on that! I’ve been extremely happy with this product, and I want to let anyone who fills in their brows know how amazing it is, so please read my Tarte Eyebrow Pencil Review!

Finding a Colour & Application:

Tarte Eyebrow Pencil Review

There are only two shades in this pencil, taupe and medium brown. I am very light blonde at the moment, and at first glance, I thought even the taupe would be too dark, but it works perfectly for me and matches my hair. I’ve tried both colours on many different people and I’m never let down in terms of finding a match, the colours seem to be very universal. In general I’d say blondes and redheads should go for Taupe, and brunettes would suit medium brown.

The pencil glides on very smoothly without any tug. I apply it by drawing a line on the bottom edge of my brow and then doing short strokes anywhere else I need some filling-in. After that I use the comb on the end of the pencil to even everything and blend any edges.

Lasting Power & Other Benefits:

This pencil lasts SO much longer than any other I’ve tried. I apply it in the morning and it will stay on until the moment the makeup remover hits without fading AT ALL! It’s also waterproof, which is definitely an added bonus if you swim or happen to be a bit oilier. I’ve been using mine for about two months so far and it doesn’t seem to be running out yet, although it’s difficult to tell. I like the packaging, it’s simple and sleek, and the comb at the end is very useful for making everything look all the more natural. And speaking of natural, Tarte is considered a natural company formulated without parabens and many other harmful ingredients, YAY!

I am in LOVE with this product, I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to have a fuller looking brow. If you have thin brows and you feel a little hesitant, trust me, doing a little work on your brows will frame your face and make you look younger. I always feel a sense of confidence after doing my brows, so rock it out! Thank you so much for reading my Tarte Eyebrow Pencil Review, please let me know if you have any questions!

Benefit Watt’s Up Review. Don’t Waste Your Money, Buy High Beam Instead!

Benefit Watt’s Up Review. Don’t Waste Your Money, Buy High Beam Instead!

I believe that Benefit is the master of brightening. I love their eye brighteners, high lighters and almost anything they make that gives you a light-full or glowy look. I am SO in love with their classic face high lighter High Beam, so I have high hopes for any product I try out of theirs. I was surprisingly very disappointed in their newest highlighter for several reasons, and I felt like I should let you know, so here’s my Benefit Watt’s Up Review.

Dislikes:

First of all, I don’t really understand why Benefit put this product out. They already have an amazing highlighter that’s a huge asset to their line (High Beam), and is designed to do the same thing, and does it much better. Watt’s Up smears your foundation and is much more of a challenge to blend. In addition to that, the texture is a cream to powder, which ends up looking a little too powdery and dry at times – at least on my skin. A final dislike would be the sponge they attached on the end of the tube. It’s definitely too small to blend much of anything and both the caps covering the product fall off.  So recap – I don’t like the texture, packaging, or application.

Likes:

I hate to say it, but the only thing I enjoy about Watt’s Up would be the colour. When I swatch it on my hand I can see that it is quite pretty and definitely has that candlelit look, however I don’t feel it has the same translation on my face after it ends up looking like an unblended streak. Maybe that’s an exaggeration but compared to other highlighters, that’s how I feel.

I hate to hate, but some products just don’t fly with me. Please keep in mind this is my personal opinion, I definitely recommend trying out any product to gather your own thoughts. On the bright side, Benefit will be releasing ANOTHER new highlighter in the same style as High Beam and Moon Beam, called Sun Beam and I am certainly going to try that one out, I have no doubt that I’ll enjoy it. Thanks for reading my Benefit Watt’s Up Review, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Coastal Scents Camo Quad Review. Amazing Value!

Coastal Scents Camo Quad Review. Amazing Value!

About a week ago I posted a Youtube video (I’ll link it at the bottom) including a haul from Coastal Scents. For those of you who haven’t heard of Coastal Scents, it’s an online brand that carries many products at great prices, definitely give it a look! Anyways, in the video I basically gave my first impression on the products I bought, and now I’d like to do an in depth Coastal Scents Camo Quad Review.
What I love:
I picked up the Camo Quad in light, and the colours all work for me beautifully. There’s a peachy shade which I use under the eyes – peach tones help to neutralize dark circles – and that works quite well, it lasts all day and covers better than anything else I’ve tried, which stands true for all the colours. There’s a skin-toned colour which I use on spots, a light green shade to neutralize redness and a stark white. I love the white for under the brow bone, I apply a sharp line of it, blend it out and then pat a shimmery highlight shade on top. This makes a very pronounced highlight, which lifts the brow and brightens the eye. For me, the colours are bang-on! I love what they’ve chosen to include, I could definitely see myself getting a lot of use out of each shade.

Dislikes:
What I don’t like about this product is that it seems too look dry after a couple hours. I apply a moisturizer before using it and still, I wish the Camo Quad was more moisturizing. Given that my skin is already slightly dry, I can see this concealer working flawlessly on an oily skin type. Another downfall for this product for me is that it doesn’t seem to work well as an eye shadow base. When I apply eye shadow after the Camo Quad, it sticks on strangely and looks inconsistent.

Overall, I’m still glad I bought this product, it was inexpensive and conceals my dark circles wonderfully. I’ve started mixing the shades with another concealer from Maybelline which has a lot more moisture, and I’m really happy with the way it turns out. If you find it is still too dry for your skin, try using a hydrating primer under all your makeup. That’s about all I have to say on this product, thank you VERY much for reading my Coastal Scents Camo Quad Review, let me know if you have any questions.

Alterna Plumping Strand Expand Review. It Really WORKS!

Alterna Plumping Strand Expand Review. It Really WORKS!

Who else HATES having flat, limp looking hair?! I thought I was doomed to an eternity of looking for a volumizer that really works, until I found my FAVOURITE hair product ever. You can tell this will be a glowing review, but I’m not 100% sure this product is right for everyone, so read up on my Alterna Plumping Strand Expand review.

This product has a lotion texture, and is meant to use on damp hair, mostly at the crown of your head (closer to the roots). I find that if I apply a nickel-sized amount about a minute before blow drying I get the best results; which would be voluminous, full hair that does NOT deflate at all throughout the day.  If you find your hair looks the same as usual, apply more product next time. If it becomes frizzy or greasy after blow drying, apply less next time. After a few uses, I understood what the right amount was for me, and my hair always looks the way I want, without feeling like I have ANYTHING in it.

One thing I noticed is that when my friends who have coarser or thicker hair used it, they weren’t as blown away as I was.  They saw a slight volume increase, but nothing too spectacular. My hair is fine, and currently short. I used it when I had long hair as well, and still loved the results. I recommend trying a sample first (ask for enough for at least 3 uses so you can get the hang of it) if your hair is thicker.

Personally, I am blown away by this product. My hair feels thicker, and looks volumized, and better than ever! This is SO worth trying out, you can get it from Sephora or www.4alterna.com for about $25 CAN, which I feel good about paying for a product that actually works. I definitely recommend the volumizing shampoo and conditioner as well. Thanks for reading my Alterna Plumping Strand Expand review, please comment and let me know your experience if you try it!

Buxom Lip Gloss Review. My Favourite Gloss!

Buxom Lip Gloss Review. My Favourite Gloss!

Buxom is probably best known for their mascara “Buxom Lash” and their sexy little packages, but this brand really does have a lot more to offer. This division of Bare Escentuals is also considered natural, and has amazing eye shadow, liners, and my personal favourite, lip glosses! I own several shades and have always really liked the glosses, so I’ve made a Buxom Lip Gloss Review. There’s not a lot I can say but I really wanted to let you all know how much I love them!

Shades & Textures:

The shades are quite extensive; there are brights, like “Tonya”, which will amp up any pink lipstick or just give your lips a pretty tint, and nudes, like “Sandy.” (Amazing colour, BTW!!) The glosses not only come in a variety of shades, but also three finishes, Full Colour, Diamond and Original, which is a sheer-creamy finish.  My favourite aspect of these glosses is that they are SO shiny! I’ve tried nearly every single gloss from Sephora and MAC, and nothing is shinier, I love it!

Searching the web for the best product deals...

Plumping & Taste:

Buxom claims that the glosses are plumping, and although they do have a relatively strong plumping/cooling sensation, I haven’t noticed my lips getting fuller. Even though my lips aren’t particularly thick, I don’t mind that they don’t plump. The cost is still on par with most regular lip glosses, $21 CAN, and the quality is outstanding. These glosses will NOT stick together when you open your lips, or get sticky. They feel very slick and comfortable on the lips. I’ve heard some people complain that the taste is bad, but personally, I’ve never had a problem with it.

I absolutely LOVE these lip glosses, the colours are gorgeous, the finishes are all unique and easy to wear and the texture is never sticky or “glob-y.” If you haven’t tried one, I highly recommend it. Thank you so much for reading my Buxom lip gloss review, please let me know what you think!

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner Review. BEST LIQUID LINER!

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner Review. BEST LIQUID LINER!

I’m a huge fan of liquid liners in pen-form, I’ve tried nearly every one that Sephora carries and usually end up liking the product a lot, until it dries up. Then I go back to gel or pencil when I can’t afford to be buying pen liners every month. Obviously this isn’t a sustainable or desirable habit to get into, no one likes having to purchase the same product nearly every month! I’ve been using the same pen liner now for quite a few months and I’ve been really happy with it. Today I’m doing a Kat Von D Tattoo Liner review, I want to tell you everything about it!

Finish, Lasting Power & Pigmentation:

Another pet peeve with liners for me is when they are shiny. I hate the look of a liner that never stops looking wet. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE glitter liner, but anything shiny on the lash line just takes away from the definition of the liner and for me is a no-no. So I love the Kat Von D Tattoo Liners because they are completely matte. The pigments are very good in the black and brown shades. The liner “Maya” is very distinctly chocolate brown and great for someone who doesn’t like the look of black liner. There are three other shades which I’m not too crazy about, a purple, blue and grey. I just find the shades are nothing too special, but regardless I love the black and brown. I own the two of those and they are especially amazing because they last FOREVER on your lash line. I can fall asleep on my face and it will still be there, nearly perfect when I wake up… haha! It isn’t labelled as waterproof, but I never have a problem with it running or smudging, and my eyes are very watery and sensitive.

Application & Longevity:

I’d definitely recommend pen liners for beginners, it seems the easiest to get the hang of and is low-maintenance. I’ve got the hang of every method of liner application and I generally prefer pen, since it is so handy, and creates a sexy, sharp cat eye. The Kat Von D liner is a brush tip (as opposed to felt tip) and doesn’t fray, making the finished look precise. The product itself lasts very long, I’ve been using the same one regularly for a couple months now and it still works like a charm, I’m so happy!

Try one for yourself, there’s really nothing I don’t like about them. The lasting power is especially pleasing to me, it stays on your eyes so well, and the actual product won’t dry out quickly. The liners are $23 CAN at Sephora, which isn’t outrageous, of course it could be less, but I’m willing to pay the price for a great product. I hope you enjoyed my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner review! Please let me know if you have any questions, thanks for checking it out.

Tarte Cheek Stain Review. A VERY Natural Look!

Tarte Cheek Stain Review. A VERY Natural Look!

Ever passed by the Tarte section, looked at the cheek stains and thought “Nooo thank you” And then kept walking by? …Me too – until I started gaining an interested in natural products. In case you didn’t know, Tarte products are 80% natural ingredients, cruelty free and paraben free. I personally love Tarte, as well as cream blush products, so I decided it was time to try them out and do a Tarte cheek stain review for you.

Finish, Pigmentation & Shade Range:

When applied the cheek stains are quite dewy, but once they settle in, the finish dries down to a natural glow, which I can appreciate, having dry skin.  It definitely feels moist on your skin, without being sticky or uncomfortable. I absolutely love the application and the gel texture. What I don’t love is the pigmentation, I feel like I have to apply a lot of product to get the colour payoff I want. On a day where I’m not wearing much make-up, it looks very natural and I’m okay with the way it turns out, but I usually prefer more colour. I think these would be well suited to those who love a very natural look, or who are just starting to wear blush. There are definitely shades for any skin type, plum, red, pink, coral and more. I personally own “tipsy” and the limited edition “glamour me” from the True Blood line. My skin is very pale and I find Tipsy to be too light, but Glamour Me which is a beautiful red with gold flex, is great.

Searching the web for the best product deals...

Lasting Power & Layering:

If you were to wear this blush on its own, I think after about 3 hours you’d want to reapply to maintain your desired colour pay off. Because I like quite a bit more colour, I layer a powder blush on top of the cheek stain. I still get the lovely texture and glow of the Tarte stain, with added blush colour of my choice.  This makes both the gel stain and the powder blush last longer; I rarely feel the need to touch up throughout the day.  However if you were going to wear the stain alone, keep in mind that once it sets, the colour becomes lighter, so I generally apply more than seems necessary at the time.

As a whole, I don’t think the cheek stains are perfect, but I do love many aspects about them. The texture of the actual product and the way it applies is fantastic; it makes my cheeks feel moisturized and glowy. I just wish the colours were slightly more vibrant, and lasted longer on my skin – a price drop wouldn’t hurt either. At $39 CAN, it’s hard for some to commit. Regardless, I think it would be a huge hit if Tarte came out with a highly pigmented stain in their shade “exposed.” Maybe someday! If you have any questions, please let me know! I hope you enjoyed my Tarte cheek stain review.
